The holiday season has come and gone yet again. Wow, are we still here? It is such a stressful time for those of us without family etc and well very hectic for those with family and who can find (perhaps) some joy in it all. Whatever we make out of the holiday season I think it's safe to say it strays from "normal". It is about anywhere from 2 months to 2 weeks depending upon your involvement in it all. Getting back to normal is very welcomed by me. I've heard many say they also welcome this return to "normal". I am reminded each year at this time, what with resolutions and all, that it is a time to begin again. So, getting back to normal, for many, in one way or another, involves transition, change and re-focusing either on what you knew you wanted from your life and yourself or on what you have recently identified that you want from your life and yourself. Of course I use the word "normal" rather flippantly here. What we actually are returning to are schedules, routines, jobs, group activities and the like. The stuff that life is made of. Normal is as normal does. There is no such thing, really, though, as normal. So as you get back to what it is that you do, in your life, or to what you are resolved to change in your life do so with passion. Believe in your purpose. Do not fear change. Welcome in change. Be open to all that is new. A life lived is one in which we challenge the same old, with the new and different. Each of us has our own version of where the "normal" falls between the same old and the new and different. Another year, another chance, another new beginning, another experiential challenge in what "normal" may represent in your life. Journey on....

                      SOUL'S THOUGHT OF THE DAY

                  Volume Four - Issue #1 -#4/The window...

There is a window from your world to your inner-most soul. Every time, in life, that a door closes abruptly upon us, a dream dies, something just isn't working out, that window opens just a little wider. Doors close. Windows open. Often we hurt. Our eyes are the windows to our soul. We open our eyes everyday. We are never sure what we will see or what we may fail to notice but our eyes are open and our souls are not hidden from others. When we encounter storms in life that is not the time to close our eyes to the pain and to what we need. Those are the times that instead of tightening down the hatches we need to begin to unwind the rope that houses our potential and our very personhood. Do you see clearly out of the windows of your soul? Do you pay attention to what life circumstance puts in your view and your path? Do you let others see into the windows of your soul? Are you open to learning or are you too afraid, too ashamed, and perhaps closed in an effort to protect yourself? Welcome your window of the world. Cherish your view. Honour it. Don't be afraid to open the curtains on this window of self and to let others look in as you look out. Many a door will close as you wind your way through the travels of your life. Many a window of opportunity will also open each and every time. Be a possibility thinker. Hope. Continue to believe that what has helped you to cope this far will help you as you move further through what it means to be you, in the window of your soul and in the world.

Persistence is its own reward. If you refuse to give up -- no matter what, at some point, you will succeed. Persistence does pay. Trying and not having the outcome that you'd hoped for is often characterized by many as failure. Deepak Chopra, M.D. says; "What we call failure is just a mechanism through which we can learn to do things right." (In his book "Creating Affluence") Failure is a teacher. Failure is a process. Unlike success, failure is not a destination. Failure has its purpose like everything else. So when we judge ourselves as having failed it is especially then that persistence pays off. Being persistent in the face of fear, pain, betrayal, depression and so forth gives us every opportunity in the world to succeed in ways that we never could have imagined we would. Be open to the many types of success that exists in our life experience. Be persistent. When the going gets tough -- get going! Persist! When you think you can't stand it anymore, stand it longer. If you ever feel like you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on longer. Enduring persistence is the process through which we learn. The power of persistence is the gift of growth.

The pain of life. The pain of the past. Present pain. Waves of pain. Ever-present pain. Pain is the master. Those in pain are the pupils. Pain is spiritually enhancing. Pain must be endured. It must be worked through. Pain must also be respected. Pain signals that change is needed. Pain signals that you are ready to learn what it is that will lead you to peace. The ebb and flow of pain and peace comes and goes as you mature, and continue to grow throughout your life. No one likes pain. No one welcomes it, really either. But fear not your pain. Your pain is a much more profound gift then you've likely realized. Embrace your pain. Face your pain. Feel your pain. Be patient with yourself as you are in pain. Trust that the pain will pass when the lesson has been imparted by the teacher. There is no pain greater than the continued dysfunctional efforts made to avoid your actual pain. Avoidance only serves to multiply your pain. Face your pain. Pain is what we need it to be when we least feel that we are able to cope with it. Pain is not in control of us unless we abdicate. We are indeed in control of our pain and the pace at which it seeks to teach us. Trust that.

Think it and it will come to pass. Believe it and you will draw it to you. Positive begets positive and negative begets negative. My glass is half-full whenever I pronounce that it is. The troubles and struggles of life do not mean that my glass is half-empty. Realistic expectations of life include the reality that nothing will ever be perfect. All things that come; come to pass. I am a winner. I am a winner, even when I lose. I am a winner, even when I lose, when I learn what the lesson is. When I learn the lessons of loss, I win because I can then go about meeting my needs and goals in much more direct and appropriate ways. What goes around, definitely come around. Give the best that you have to offer to every situation, to every person and to yourself in your life and you will reap the best that the universe has to offer you, as you're life continues to unfold as it is no doubt meant to. Be positive, it takes less time and energy. Be open to the lessons of loss...

I am somebody. I am somebody, somewhere. I may, at times feel lost. I may not be sure where I am. I may not be sure where I am going. One thing is for sure: I am somebody, somewhere. It matters most that I am somebody in my own life. It matters most that I value who I am right now regardless of my struggles. As I continue to grow and change and get to know myself in amazingly new ways, I am somebody, somewhere.
